Ryan Garcia On Gervonta Davis: “He’s Explosive And We’ll Make Fireworks”

Unbeaten Garcia has said he's expecting "fireworks" with Gervonta Davis superfight

Ryan Garcia set to take on Gervonta Davis on April 15

Although the highly anticipated superfight between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia, scheduled for April 15th, has not yet been finalised, Garcia's recent actions indicate that the fight is still on track. This is reassuring news for fans eagerly anticipating the event. During an interview with FightHype, Garcia appeared relaxed and spoke candidly not only of Davis, but of his own plans for the future. “I’m trying to end it by 26,” he said of his boxing career. “Like I said, titles mean a little less to me now. There’s so many titles that are being given away I’ve kind of lost my fire to get one.”

What Garcia said he wanted, however, was fights with the biggest names of his peers.

“All right let's get the big names in there right now,” he said. “Let's fight Lomachenko, let's fight Gervonta Davis, let's fight Devin Haney, let's get those fights on right now.” “That’s my legacy,” he said, “(but) everybody has their own way.”

The question now is whether or not Garcia will get to have those major fights. After all, the Garcia-Davis bout still hasn’t been made official.

Still, Garcia came across super confident. “Can you name one fighter that fought everybody in their prime and beat them?” he asked. “There is going to be one. It’s going to be me.”

What makes the fighter appealing to many is not only his impressive track record and charismatic online presence, but also his clear ambition. Unlike other prominent figures in modern boxing, Garcia does not settle for complacency. He is someone who is determined to demonstrate his worth and wants to fight the best.

Garcia will have quite the challenge ahead of him should the Davis fight be made official. Like Garcia, Davis is young, popular, undefeated, and possesses scary, one punch knockout power combined with incredible speed. Yet Garcia was explicit in his view that Davis is not as highly regarded as he might assume. “I’m saying you’re not a bigger star than me.” Yet Garcia wasn’t one to downplay Davis’ fighting skills. “He’s a talented fighter, though,” said Garcia of Davis. “He’s explosive. He’s going to make this fight huge, as well.”

Undoubtedly, the Garcia-Davis fight is a highly anticipated event that is certainly worth waiting for. Hopefully, for boxing fans, it will become a reality.
